OMNI Engineering, Inc., is located in Southern California, and is a manufacturer of progressive dies and contract stamper of electronic contacts. OMNI was incorporated in 1978, and supplies electronic contacts in high volumes (1.5 billion annual capacity) to consumer manufacturers in the United States, Mexico, Central America and Asian markets. Our specialty is Miniature, Micro Miniature and Precision Metal Stampings.

Copper based alloys are used extensively in production of contacts. OMNI Engineering is a large user of clad materials, utilizing gold, paliney and solder inlays in various based metals. Other materials include stainless steels, brass, phosphor bronze and spinodal. Material thickness ranges from .001” to .032” and up to 3” in width. We work closely with several plating sources across the country to meet our customer’s needs for plated contacts in precious metals, tin and nickel. We provide controlled atmosphere heat-treating of beryllium copper and spinodal contacts in house.

Our Engineering staff works closely with customer design and manufacturing counterparts on feasibility studies and prototyping of new products, and is backed by the latest technology in the form of AutoCAD Computer Aided Design linked with our Mitsubishi Wire EDM with advanced circuitry specifically designed for extreme accuracy and fine finish carbide. This enables OMNI to design and build progressive dies of consistent high quality requiring minimum maintenance over extended production runs.

Our Tooling Department is comprised of experienced Toolmakers who are capable of grinding to 50 micro inches. Tooling equipment consists of Mitsubishi and Harig Surface Grinders equipped with precision wheel forming dressers, Bridgeport Vertical Milling Machines and a fully tooled Victor Lathe. Toolmakers are responsible for the assembly and maintenance of progressive dies, either OMNI or Customer owned. We maintain an inventory of spare tooling inserts and have established predetermined tooling maintenance schedules to prevent significant downtime to the customer.

OMNI uses 22 and 30 ton Bruderer Presses, all presses are housed in sound enclosures equipped with operator safely interlock sensors and tool safety displays identifying the source of any shut down. This feature reduces troubleshooting and minimizes down time. Material payoff and takeup systems are fully automate

Inspection of stamped components is visually and functionally inspected at the press, dimensional inspection and testing is performed in a separate quality laboratory setting. The quality area is fully automated and supports the latest technology with real time SPC data collection and reporting, Control Plans for each part, an OGP F.O.V. (Field of View) Smartscope Automated Video Measuring System, Keyence High Resolution Digital Microscope, Keyence Laser Micrometer, Mitutoyo Optical Comparators, Mitutoyo Toolmakers Microscopes, and various digital and standard hand held tools. All inspection equipment is controlled through a calibration system traceable to NIST. SPC charts are supplied to the customer with each shipment. Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), and Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (Gage R&R) Studies are provided to the customer when requested.
